Bugger!

I learned this game from my uncle, who learned it from our pastor. "Bugger* Your Canadian Neighbour" (our pastor is Canadian) is the real name, but the short name is "Bugger!". I didn't actually play, but I watched enough to memorize the rules.

Bugger!

You will need a deck of 56 cards, 2 if 6-10 are playing. Are more playing?!?!? (That would be strange!) But here is the chart.
# of Players # of Decks
1-5=1
6-10=2
11-15=3
16-20=4
21-25=5
26-30=6

In the first round deal 10 cards to each person, then 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1. The dealer draws the top card of the remaining cards, and that card is trump for that round. The players look at their cards and then choose how many tricks they think they will win. When all of the players have chosen, they make their hands into a fist. They all put their fists on the table and knock their fingers on the table three times. On the third time, they show how many tricks they think they will win. The scorekeeper writes them all down. The cards are ranked as follows: A**, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2***. When all cards have been played, the scorekeeper X's the bids that have not met their goal, take or give! He puts a 1 to the left of the bids who have suceeded, thus becomimg their score for that round.

Hope you have fun!
Matthew

* "Bugger" is a Canadian word.
