Recipes we've tried lately

We have (at least I have) been trying a lot of recipes lately, ever since I've been trying to learn how to cook and bake. Here are the cookbooks we've tried them from. Actually, I have a special surprise at the end of my blog! It is a well loved, (and I mean loved), recipe, if you ask my dad. I have been trying from "Marmee's Kitchen Primer", and a book from the library called, "Chock full of Chocolate."(that one my dad really likes.) Here are the recipes:

"Marmee's Kitchen Primer" - Wheat pancakes\waffles in a mix
Blushing Lemonade
Country Muffins
Mini Meatloaves
Corn on the cob
Seasoned green beans
Creamed dried beef gravy
Peanut butter jam bars
Banana split Bowl Cake
Easy peanut butter cookies

"Chock full of Chocolate" - Midnights
Crumble Muffins
"not done yet" - Blondies
Chocolate-sandwich cheesecake
Peppermint Bars
Hot Fudge Pudding
Polka dot Pie
Deep dark Fudge
Cool Shake
Big bite Brownies

Now for the special recipe!

Double Chocolate Cookies:

Ingredients:
2 c. sugar
1 1\4 c. butter
2 eggs
3\4 c. cocoa
2 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
1\2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chocolate chips

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream together first 3 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
3. Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. Cook for 8-12 minutes, until cookies are just done but not well done. Overcooking will make them dry and hard. Cookies will flatten as they cool. Leave on pan for a few minutes before removing to cooling racks, or they will fall apart.

Courtney

Our Chicks

We got chicks yesterday. There are 26 of them - 24 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Dark Cornish chicks. I never thought about this before, but when we count them, we can count like a-b-c-d-e-f-g...! Courtney and I both have our own, they are the Dark Cornish ones. They are only two days old. Brianna has her own, too, but I don't think we can tell between the Reds, ha ha. If you look back at "Our Goals for 2008 (continued)" (published 01/03/08), you will find that goal #8 is to start an egg business. Well, that won't happen in 2008, but it will in 2009!
